In 1997 Caje, (pronounced cage), was founded by two childhood friends living in Columbus, Ohio. Charles Goddard and Jesse Willette were inspired by AC/DC to pick up instruments and have a good time rocking out to their favorite songs. The group then called Powerrage, didn't become more serious until Marz Rickey (bass), and Joe Goddard (lead guitar), joined later that year. With Marz and Joe in the group, now called Ground Zero, they began to focus on writing original material. Many of these songs such as, Taken By Force and Soul Brigade, are still in Caje's repertoire.
In the next five years the group renamed itself Caje, played tons of shows, and wrote tons of material. Some of the bands Caje have been on a bill with are, Deselectra, Crush Efekt, Rivin, and 13 South. National acts Caje Have played with include, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Nile, and Hate Eternal. Caje have also played local Columbus venues like High 5, Midgard Comics, and The Alrosa Villa. The highlight of all these gigs so far has been the 2002 Milwaukee Metalfest. Caje shared the stage with over 100 bands big and small from around the world for 5000 rabid metal fans.
The Metal Fest was also the last stand for the original Caje lineup. Jesse no longer had the desire to continue on in music. The search was on for a new vocalist. In November of that year Caje found Scott Sykes after several auditions with other "singers". Scott had a decent voice but also had a good wealth of musical knowledge and creativity. Caje drove forward for the next year and a half.
May of 2004 came another change to the lineup. After a canceled show and a few missed rehearsals, it was agreed to let Scott go his own way. His vision of what Caje should be was not shared by the other members. Once again Caje were singer-less. The next step would come soon, and from a place closer to Caje than expected by the band.Good friend and future bandmate, Brandon Noyes.
By July Caje still had no singer and were considering the end of the band. A close friend of Caje reccomended Matt Jones. Matt came by for a try-out and blew everyone away with his vocal skill. He is such a natural at singing with such little band experience, that no one in Caje could believe it. It wasn't a tough decision to make, so he was instantly recruited as the frontman for the group. Caje has played a solid amount of shows with Matt including, but not limited to, the 2004 Battle of the Bands at Sheets and Sons Music, in which they won in all categories.
Recently, after the disheartening breakup of Caje's good friends in Deselectra, the aformentioned Brandon Noyes was without a band and musical purpose. After contacting the other members in Caje, it was decided to make him a part of the Caje family. Brandon taking over guitar duites from Matt frees him, (Matt), to be even more agressive and effective frontman for Caje. Mr. Noyes brings more than just his expirence, excellent skills, and musicianship to the table in Caje. He makes Caje a truley formidible tandem guitar attack!
The future is brighter than ever for Caje. Revitalized by an unrelenting drive to succeed, Caje is unlocked and unleashed
